What makes Singapore such a fascinating place to live and explore is its genuine multicultural dynamic. Nationalities from all four corners of the world settle here and there is a thriving Chinatown area that is home to some of the most authentic Chinese cuisine you'll find anywhere on the planet.
Whether you're planning a cosy night in for two or a Chinese feast with friends for a birthday party, let's take a look at some extra special rice dishes available from our participating restaurants that can really add an extra dimension to your main dishes.
1. Yangzhou Fried Rice at Imperial Treasure, Tanjong Pagar
You might know it as special fried rice or house fried rice, but the Yangzhou fried rice at Imperial Treasure is one of the most luxurious we've had the pleasure of devouring. Jam-packed with fresh shrimps, pork, and vegetables, along with a generous amount of egg and perfectly-cooked fluffy white rice, it's a meal in itself but can also accompany lighter dishes too such as its house special, congee.
2. Fried Rice Cake with Pork at Tong Fu Ju Sichuan Restaurant, Boat Quay
These lightly fried rice cakes are a delicious side dish to accompany other dishes. Crammed with all of the delicious flavours you'd get with a Yangzhou fried rice, but in stir-fried, bite-sized patties that are perfect with dipping sauces and saucy curries and dishes. Tong Fu Ju Sichuan restaurant on Boat Quay makes some really great rice cakes that are ideal as a light snack or as part of a main meal.
3. Chicken Rice at Boon Tong Kee, Orchard
When you ask me what's good in Singapore, besides the usual Chilli and pepper crabs, the first thing that comes to mind is chicken rice! Singapore's chicken rice is exceptionally good. Love the poached chicken at Boon Tong Kee and we ordered a portion of roast chicken too which wasn't too shabby either. The spinach in 3 eggs was good too #chickenrice #ubiquitous #hawkerfood #flavoursofsingapore #boontongkeechickenrice #roastchicken #poachedchicken #spinachin3eggs #rivervalley #sgfood #sgig #sg #latergram #vsco
Boon Tong Kee's chicken rice is what makes this restaurant tick. With eight different restaurants across the Lion City, it's quickly built a loyal and regular following thanks to the high quality and freshness of their chicken rice dishes. The chicken is consistently juicy and tender and the complementary ginger and chilli sauce is sweet and spicy to pair with the fragrant rice.
4. X.O. Sauce Crab Meat Fried Rice at Lokkee, Orchard
Heavily inspired by Chinese takeaways and street food outlets discovered in various Chinatown suburbs across the globe, Lokkee delivers flavoursome fried rice dishes in spades. Their most luxurious and indulgent dish? It 100% has to be the crab meat rice, combined with tangy X.O. sauce.
5. Lotus Black Pepper Beef Fried Rice at Honguo, City Hall
Famed for serving some of the most authentic Chinese cuisine in the whole of Singapore, Honguo specialises in fried rice dishes as well as hot pots. We're particularly a big fan of the Lotus Black Pepper Beef Fried Rice, which is very similar to Black Bean in its salty, peppery flavours and is the perfect complement to a sweeter main dish.
6. Fried Rice with Dried Scallops and Turnips at Shin Yeh, Clarke Quay
One of the most popular and decadent fried rice dishes at Shin Yeh on the cosmopolitan Clarke Quay is the decadent Fried Rice with Dried Scallops and Turnips. They also do a Fried Rice with Mullet Fish Roe which is also an interesting choice if you're feeling particularly bold with your flavours.
