Four Singapore restaurants that are shaking up the milkshake

Watch out vanilla, strawberry and chocolate, there are some new shakes and smoothies in town. It's all part of a new trend to introduce a whole lot of revolutionary flavours and ingredients and plenty of them are super-healthy too. The great thing about all the ones we've chosen is that they're perfect for different times of the day, from giving you a real breakfast boost to providing a sophisticated evening cocktail. They're also proof that dessert takeaways don't have a monopoly on the milkshake. So get ready to enjoy some real flavour sensations through a straw!

1. Peanut Butter Milkshake - Once Upon A Milkshake

Peanut Butter in a milkshake? If you thought this savoury spread's proper place is on a piece of toast or in a sandwich it's certainly time to reconsider. Though it's true, this is the first time that we've ever come across it in a milkshake. But if there's anywhere that was going to make the breakthrough it's definitely Once Upon A Milkshake. It joins a big line-up of even bigger flavours including their famous Durian Mao Shan Wang shakes - which are definitely not for the faint-hearted. But for an altogether milder experience, the peanut butter is perfect.

2. Lychee Martini - The Daily Scoop

Next up is a decidedly adult taste brought to you by The Daily Scoop. Their Lychee Martini is a fabulous blend of fruit and alcohol which not only features the iconic Italian vermouth but a good slug of vodka too. If you think this sounds like the sort of concoction that James Bond would choose you're probably quite right. Especially as the ingredients, like in his perfect Martini, aren't stirred – they're churned, to create a thick and decidedly delicious twist on a classic cocktail.

3. Barley Milkshake - Xin Bei Healthy Papaya Milkshake

While our previous choice goes down the liquor route, here the grain that's used to make whisky is used in a decidedly non-alcoholic drink from Xin Bei Healthy Papaya Milkshake. The barley is mixed with your choice of red or green beans, or alternatively comes in "original" flavour, to create a shake that's positively overflowing with good things like protein, two kinds of vitamin B and phosphorus too. They claim it could reduce wrinkles and make your skin smoother. We don't know about that, but we promise it'll have you grinning from ear to ear!

4. Lean Green - Haakon Superfoods & Juice

Another super-healthy shake to finish with from Haakon Superfoods & Juice. The Lean Green will have you bursting with get-up-and-go from the very first taste. Spinach, matcha green tea powder, apple, kiwi fruit, celery and soy come together to create the perfect antidote to the midday energy slump or even make a true breakfast of champions. In fact after just one Lean Green serving don't be surprised if you start to feel like The Incredible Hulk - but without the anger!
