Welcome to the humble streets of Joo Chiat! Believe it or not, this little slice of Singapore plays host to some of the best foods in the world, with cuisines and styles aplenty to tickle your fancy and fill that tum. Today we're taking a look at just a couple of the flavour sensations on the local menu, four of many that'll take your palate on a rip-roaring world tour from start to finish. Be it our old style Italian pizza or steaming Viet Pho, these plate ups are not to be missed.
1. Piping Hot Vietnamese Cuisine from Pho Stop
Vietnamese cuisine is a thing of beauty, and the kitchen pros at Pho Stop are as close to masters of its menu as you can possibly get. Their speciality? Why, it's in the name, of course! If you're a Viet fan or just a curious foodie on the hunt for their first bowl of pho, then look no further than their humble table. A bowl of Hanoi Chicken Pho is already set and waiting to fill you right up from the edge of your toes to the tips of your ears. Warming, fragrant, full of goodness. Very nice. Other highlights include the pomelo salad, fruity and red, and chicken wings draped in a homemade secret sauce.
2. Classic Italian Chow at Alt. Pizza
Stop number two along the streets of Joo Chiat: Alt. Pizza and their unique take on the taste of Italy. Making any old circle of dough is an easy enough thing, but making great pizza, classic style, dusted with love? That's what sets these guys apart from the rest of the crowd. As aesthetically pleasing as they are delicious, every pizza they cook up is just as delicious as the last. A gently sweet, chewy base. A balanced tomato spread – and the toppings. Oh, the toppings! With so many combos available, it's hard to even know where to begin. How about the Signature Lean and Green? Topped with charred and cheesy veg, it's Italian at its best.
3. Beefy Mexican by Los Jefes
Buenos dias – please, take a seat. Joo Chiat food number three is Mexican, presented by Los Jefes and their legendary taco selection. Here's the thing: Mexican is sweet. Mexican is salty. Mexican is an eclectic mix of heat, meat and everything else under their burning hot sun, and that's the best thing about it! There's so much on offer and so much to choose from, you're bound to find a firm favourite in no time at all. Personally, we recommended the Lengua Tacos. Nothing beats that slow cooked beef. Except maybe the pork belly. Or the chicken. Or the poblano peppers. Gah! So much good food!
4. Wild Hawaiian from Aloha Poké
What brief tour of the culinary world would be complete with a little poké? Simply meaning 'raw fish,' in Hawaiian, this staple of island food comes right at you fresh, crisp and oh-so-tasty! Fancy a bite? Aloha Poké will be more than happy to accommodate you. Their Nalu Tuna bowl is as scrumptious as can be. So tuck right on in!
