A good curry is the king of contradictions. It can be both super hot yet delicately fragrant. Subtly aromatic, while packing a proper punch of spice. Soothing comfort food with a gentle temperament, as well as a colourful character that's getting all up in your face.
The curry is all about the complexity of flavour, which is why it has long been up there as a favourite takeaway dish. Whether you want a light lunch or a megawatt feast, we've rounded up five restaurants that are crazy about curry.
1. INDLINE - The Indian Cookery
INDLINE's starter menu is much more than the most famous Indian snacks of bhajis and samosas, though they are here in abundance too. You've got Chilly Honey Potato – honey flavoured crispy potato fries. Gobi Manchurian – crispy cauliflower tossed with onions and peppers. Machli Amritsari – boneless fish cubes, deep-fried with ginger, chillies and lemon. And the Chicken Manchurian is slow-cooked boneless chicken, which is then stir-fried with ginger, garlic and soy sauce.

2. Karu's Indian Banana Leaf Restaurant
This place is a biryani paradise, with a massive mouth-watering menu of this famous Indian mixed rice dish. The most popular are the Chicken Masala Biryani, the Fried Chicken Biryani, the Curry Mutton Biryani and the Mysore Mutton Biryani – but that's just the beginning. You could have your biryani with curried, chilli or sambal white fish. Or with seasoned cuttlefish, if you're feeling a bit fancy. Prawn or crab masala biryani. Go meat-free with a vibrant vegetable option.

3. The Mango Tree Indian Coastal Restaurant
Meat-free doesn't mean fun-free, and this place has an enormous vegetarian menu to prove it. Try the Avial, fresh vegetables cooked in a coconut and curd-based masala. The Kappa Vevichathu, diced tapioca with chilli and mustard seeds. Green Mango Curry. Black Bean Dal. Aloo Ghobi, potatoes and cauliflower slow-cooked in Indian spices. Or the Bhindi Do Pyaza, the evergreen okra with seasoned onions.
However, at the completely other end of the spectrum, this restaurant also pulls out a couple of showstoppers with a Tandoori Lobster and The Mango Tree Garlic Crab, stone crab stuffed with a garlic and butter marinade.

4. Omar Shariff Authentic Indian Cuisine
No Indian cuisine round-up would be complete without a healthy nod to the wonders of the tandoor, and here you'll find a huge Tandoori, Tikka & Kebab section in its menu. Of course, there's the traditional chicken – marinated in cream and rare spices and grilled in the clay oven – but there's much more too. Tandoori Prawns. Fish Tikka Jehangir. Hariyali Tikkas. Malai Tikkas. Tandoori Paneer Tikka. Bharwa Mirch – peppers studded with vegetables and spices meets the clay oven, making a great vegetarian option.
