As residents of Singapore, we're exceptionally lucky to have unrivalled diversity of local spices thanks to our multicultural city. Singapore is home to some of the best North and South Indian cuisine on the planet, but it hasn't always had the airtime and exposure that other Asian cuisines have enjoyed in Singapore.
That's why we've put together our fab five list of Indian takeaway restaurants that do the cuisine justice in Singapore, with signature dishes and authentic flavours that offer a true taste of Indian life.
1. Muthu's Curry, Suntec City
Perfect for both group gatherings and casual dining for one, Muthu's Curry has been offering home-cooked Indian cuisine with a passion for almost 50 years. Based largely on the traditional South Indian dishes of Chettinadu, Muthu's Curry menu is resplendent with mouth-watering meat and seafood dishes cooked in a plethora of homely, aromatic spices. The one dish that has everyone talking about Muthu's is its signature Fish Head Curry – served with juicy okra and pineapple chunks in a rich gravy with a generous hint of tamarind.
2. INDLINE – The Indian Cookery, Chinatown
Yummy Indian feast with @post_eatz! 😋 @indline does not offer typical Indian food that we find along Little India. Located along Keong Saik Road, it fits into the place with their hip and contemporary Indian cookery concept. 👌🏻. . During lunch they offer a Indbox concept, where you can customize your own meal from the various choices! . . If you have the time, seat in and take a look at their extensive menu! Surely, you'll be able to find something for yourself!😉
This restaurant is home to a head chef with more than a quarter of a century of cooking experience in the kitchen. INDLINE serve affordable and authentic Indian dishes in a contemporary dining setting. Open from 11.30am until 10.30pm, INDLINE is excellent for those seeking flavour on the go. Their takeaway dishes of layered bread with fragrant chopped mint, combined with a fresh and wholesome Dal Tadka and Aloo Methi, are the perfect Indian street food.
3. Spice Grill, Tanjong Pagar
Offering a genuine pure North Indian taste, Spice Grill in the heart of Tanjong Pagar is widely recognised as one of the most authentic Indian dining experiences in Singapore. A family restaurant, owned by Kashmir Singh, Spice Grill has played host to two American Presidents, Mr George W. Bush and Mr Bill Clinton, such is their reputation for traditional North Indian flavours. Their mutton and prawn vindaloo really packs a punch, while their Tandoor meats fresh from the clay oven are juicy and marinated in original herbs and spices that tantalise the taste buds.
4. Tandoor, Orchard
Situated within the Holiday Inn in Orchard City Centre, Tandoor has been serving up traditional North Indian dishes since 1985. The restaurant's menu entirely hails from the northern regions of the country, with authentic coastal dishes from the likes of Goa, Punjab and Mangalore. Tandoor perfectly balances the need for contemporary dining environments with timeless Indian cuisine that keeps families and groups of friends coming back for more. Be sure to check out their signatures dishes, Nalli Gosht and their vibrant Mango Curry.
5. The Curry Culture, Orchard
The Curry Culture near Orchard Road proudly labels itself one of Singapore's best kept secrets for Indian cuisine. Famed for its ancient cooking techniques and traditional flavours, it's the perfect food for any special occasion get-together. Relatively new to Singapore's Indian dining scene, the restaurant has been open since 2012 and offers both alfresco and indoor dining options as well as swift and reliable takeaways. We recommend the heavenly-tender butter chicken, as well as the tangy and spicy Goan fish curry that's great with their speciality saffron rice.
